Comito's Dozen

This is your opportunity to build your own folio. Unlike the Baker’s Dozen, which is for cookies and the like, you select the images you would like in your Folio.

Folios can be 5, 10 or 12 prints each of any Digital Pigment-On-Paper image on the site. When you select a Comito’s Dozen Folio, you receive an extra image of your choice free. Perhaps not as good a dozen donuts, but they do last longer! Cost for the Folios are $50, $120, and $140, respectively.

Folios come with a Title page, List of Images Page and Colophon. All Folios are signed and made specifically for you!

Capparis Spinosa

These images were made while I was deployed to Iraq in 2006 to 2007. Everyday on my way to and from the chow hall I would pass a low lying bush in the parking lot of the chow hall. Usually the plants were covered in a fine dust from the passing vehicles. One day I noticed some very delicate white flowers were blooming on the bush. I was intrigued by the thorns, the foliage and the delicate white flowers. I determined the best time to get the flowers was early in the morning before the influx of personnel and vehicles.

So once I was through with missions for the day I would go and make some images of the flowers as time permitted. These images are from those forays into the early morning or late afternoon. The flowers would bloom and then die by the end of the day.

These plants seemed to exemplify the contrast that was the Iraq I experienced - delicate beauty in the midst of great heat, the fragile white blossoms in the midst of long sharp thorns, beauty in a dangerous world.
